Cress
Sow from March onwards 1cm (1/2") deep in rows 30cm (1ft) apart for summer/autumn crops and again in September for a winter crop. With the exception of Upland Cress winter crops may need protection.
WATER CRESS
Sow seeds in
March/April in seed trays. Transplant to container with restricted drainage
enabling the roots to be moist at all times. Space plants 15cm (6") apart.
Cut regularly leaving 5cm (2") to allow for rapid re-growth. Remove any
flowers that appear.
UPLAND
Similar in appearance
to American cress with dark green leaves with a hot, peppery flavour. Livens up
salads and sandwiches.
WRINKLED CRINKLED
Bright green leaves
with ruffled edges. Wonderful addition to salads. Spicy flavour. Strong
resistance to bolting.
CRESSIDA
Rapid growing plant
with finely cut leaves. Decorative and rich in vitamins. Use in salads and
garnishes.
